Stonehenge

Stonehenge

Stonehenge is a building built in the Bronze Age, and Neolithic. It lies adjacent to Amesbury in Wiltshire, England, about 13 kilometers northwest of Salisbury. As one of the most famous sites in the world, Stonehenge is an upright stone circle that is within the scope of the ground wall.
There is a dispute about the actual age of the stone circle, but most archaeologists estimate that the building was erected between 3,000 BC and 2,000 BC. In 2008, radiocarbon dating showed that the first stone was erected between 2400 and 2200 BC. While other theories indicate that the blue stone (bluestone) was established around 3,000 BC.
The mound of earth and the circular moat around it, is a marker of the early stages of the construction of the monument. The dates obtained from the feature are about 3,100 BC. The Stonehenge site and its surroundings were added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1986 along with Avebury Henge.
Stonehenge comes from Stone and Henge. Stone means stone, while Henge means circle. Archaeologists define the henge as a circular earth wall and there is a moat in it.
At the beginning of the 20th century, most of the stones were no longer standing upright. This is probably due to the many tourists who climbed Stonehenge in about the 19th century because of their great curiosity. Since then, there have been three stages of renovation to re-establish the sloping or reversed stone, and to return the stones to their original place carefully.
